Solving for multiple legal entities during data migration

We have 72 legal entities in our organisation, over 50 of which are fully active and have bank accounts, customers, vendors, fixed assets etc.  One of the challenges we have encountered during data migration is the need to load transactions and master data by individual legal entity.  For configuration, the copy feature in data management solves this problem.  For transactions and master data, it would speed up our data migration window significantly if we could load a single file for all legal entities for vendors or fixed assets, or even opening balance journal transactions.  Is there any way to achieve this?

I have the same question (0)

What do you mean by single file ? File containing data for vendors of all legal entities ? I don't think you can do that.

Yes.  A single file would hugely reduce the time to perform the migration as data is loaded into a target table in SQL across all legal entities, and then has to be split into multiple files and loaded individually through data management.  We are loading around 70 data entities across the 72 legal entities.  We haven't found a solution - hoping someone else has.

    Hi Gavin,

Do you have the performance issues with loading one file per company or preparation takes a lot of time?

Preparation takes a long time.  Export from source system into target tables in the staging database is completed in less than 5 minutes and general under a minute per data entity.  The longest time period is the conversion of the source table into Excel and splitting into legal entity, then loading each file into Dynamics 365 through data management.  Once the files are running in batch the performance is not a significant issue.

    Hi Gavin,

Have you though to automate split process? For example, you can convert excel file to csv and push to Logic apps, which will split it to separate files per company and upload it to F&O with data package API or recurring integration?

Off course single file wont work . You have to split the file and work with some kind of automation where you can automate import of those files. You can use recurring integration or data package API  as Sergie mentioned . In one of our project where 250 + entities were involved we did automation to  import data using recurring integration. Automation was for moving files and creating packages as per d365 required format.

PowerAutomate suggestion is a good one

Alternatively create files per entity from source itself and import data set per company
