Multiple Dimensions in one Document

Hi Guys

is it possible to set different dimensions per line in one document:

Example:

We are ordering from one supplier a couple of items/materials. But each item/line for that certain purchase order document are set per their actual dimensions. This is so we can assign cost to their specific dimensions. Our dimensions are as follows (1) Account Manager (2) Business Unit (3) Project (4) Industry and each item should have all 4 dimensions set when we put them in the lines.

For better understanding please see following:

PO Document

-Lines-

Item 1: Dim's - AM A, BU A, Project A, Industry A

Item 2: Dim's - AM A, BU A, Project B, Industry A

Item 3: Dim's - AM B, BU A, Project C, Industry B

ETC.......

P.S. this is also used for other documents in our company, not only in the PO docs.

Hope you can help Us

TIA

    Hi Alex

I finally get your 2nd reply. I'll try to trace which G/L account I post each docs, as well as try out different scenarios and try to generate different reports by dimensions as well.

    Thanks for all the help

    Hello Alvin,

It depends on what types of accounts and what ledgers you are reporting with (see my former description). Also, if you clear the header dimension settings it will probably also clear the line dimension settings, and you'll need to go set the lines again. Give it a test in your test environment and see what happens.

    Hi Alex

Do correct me if I'm wrong, but as per my understanding of your reply is that both header and line dimensions are saved when the document is posted.

Again my concern is , when I make a report analysis by dimension, which dimension will NAV use to generate the report? cause what we need it to pull is the line dimension not the header dimension? also when I make a document (PO, SO, etc...) can I do without the header dimension?

    TIA

RE: Multiple Dimensions in one Document

    Hello Alvin,

Regarding the Dimensions set at the Header level:

-This dimension information will automatically be added as defaults on all Sales Order lines, but can still be changed at the line level.

-The Dimension Set ID will be stored on the posted Sales Order header, on the G/L entry of the balance sheet account, and on the customer ledger entry - as soon as the Sales Order is posted.

Regarding Dimensions set at the Line level:

-The dimensions information filled in at the header level becomes the default to the line level.

-This dimension information at the line level can be added/changed/deleted without changing the dimension information on the header level.

-This Dimension Set ID will be stored on the Posted Sales Order line, on the G/L entry of the income statement, on the G/L entry of the VAT account, and on the value ledger entry - as soon as the Sales Order is posted.

    Hi Alex

I see now, there is a "document dimension" and "line dimensions". Yes i was able to set dimensions per line now.

but this gave way to a new question, i have set a document dimension already, and as you've instructed i have set individual dimensions per line as well. so my question is.

When creating reports, won't these two dimensions create a conflict on the info? i mean won't the document dimension take precedence when NAV creates the report? or is it the other way around?

    TIA

    Hi Alex

First, I would like to thank you for your reply.

I have already tried your suggestion before, i don't know, maybe there is something wrong in our NAV settings, but the last dimension i enter seem to overwrite the previous dimensions that i encoded in the other lines. Nevertheless i will still do your suggestion, maybe i was the one doing something wrong the first time. I will give you an update as soon as i try them.

    Thanks

    Hello Alvin,

On the Purchase Order, highlight the Line you want to work with and (in the header area for the Lines section) click on Line => Dimensions => to open the Edit Dimension Set Entries page. From here you can add multiple dimensions per line.
