    Hi,

User SQL scripts like here stackoverflow.com/.../7892349 to analyze the data in SQL. If you use BYODW exports a lot, then use the cleanup jobs d365foe.blogspot.com/.../how-to-configure-cleanup-of-data.html

    For Logs, check link www.sqlshack.com/.../

    Hi Naveed Nawaz,

    Please check your backup strategy.

Usually, transaction log backup should be ran in frequent intervals (5-15 minute intervals is fairly common).

You could check if there is any long running transactions happening:

SELECT DB_NAME(dbid) AS DBNAME, (SELECT text FROM sys.dm_exec_sql_text(sql_handle)) AS SQLSTATEMENT FROM master..sysprocesses WHERE open_tran > 0

In addition to what Vinit mentioned, also you could use DBCC SHRINKFILE statement to shrink log file size.

    Hello Naveed,

    What happened last month?

If I read your data correctly then suddenly the db size increased almost by the factor 4 and the log file size by 10.

Were there some major changes implemented? New programs, changes in the configuration, etc.?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Naveed,

Like mentioned above, check the backup schedules. Check also the auto cleanup options for older backups. The backup may fail due to insufficient diskspace. If the backup failed, the auto shrinking will not work, which causes growing log files. I have also seen the insufficient disk space when a user parked a very large file on the same disk as used for the backups.
