Price units

Hi Everybody,

I've a customer who is working in the iron branch.

The buy and sell iron bars.

The bars are bought in Tons where the purchase price is in KG or T.

They inventorize it in Eaches.

And they sell it in Meters where the sales price is in KG or T.

On the released item, I defined unit conversions between

  • Pieces and T
  • Pieces and KG
  • M and T
  • M and KG.

So this helps me to define on the released item the

  • Purchase unit is T
  • Sales unit is M
  • Inventory unit is EA

I've defined a sales price for this item in KG.

When I create a SO, and try to sell let's say 200 m, AX is not able to calculate any sales unit price. Why? All the conversions where defined.

Even if the sales prices are in KG AX should be able to recalculate the correct sales price for 200 m.

Is this still a gap in AX 2012 or do we have any work around??

Thanks a lot for your help! BR, Jemm

    Hi Jemm,

AX assumes you define the price per Unit specified. There is no automatic calculation of the price in another unit based on the unit conversions. These conversions are only used for the quantities. So or you have to define a price in Meters or go for a customization.

    Hi André Arnaud,

Thank you so much for you very accurate answer. By experience did you already get this kind of issue? This is quite common in the industrial steel branch. Are you aware about some vertical solution in AX 2012 that can solve this kind if problematic. Many thanks. Best regards! Jemm

Not sure that this will help, because this solution comes with its own set of problems but you might want to look at Catch weight. At least that would solve the inventory unit (Kg) vs. Each problem. You setup a sales price trade agreement per unit of measure - so there's a sales price per Kg, and a different sales price per M - but as Andre says, no price conversion.

    Hi Jemm,

About 18 years ago (my former NAV live) I had a customer in the oil industry with the same requirement. Then we had a customization where we had two units on purchase and sales order lines. One for the order quantity and one for the price.

I'm not aware if there is an add-on meeting your requirements.

Hi André, we had a prospect in the steel industry a year or so ago. We saw:

    www.crowehorwath.com/.../metals.aspx

Looked good, but I never got the chance to work with it in detail.

    Thanks Tim,

Good to know about this solution. I think Jemm can have a look at this.
