No cost price on the standalone sales return order

I created a standalone sales return order, e.g. new a order line with negative quantity and item price
Since it is a standalone sales return order, there is no 'Return lot ID' and 'Return cost price'.

Refer to this Microsoft explanation, if 'Return cost price' is not entered, the current cost price is used when the goods are returned to inventory.

In my testing, I didn't enter the return cost price, because I would like to test if the system populates the current cost price for the sales return order as mentioned from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/supply-chain/service-management/return-cost-price-and-return-lot-id .

However, when I post delivery note and sales invoice, I do not see the cost price on the sales return order.
Therefore, there is no COSG in sales return order.

Has anyone came across this?

    Hi STP,

Can you tell us what exact costing setup you have for this item? What costing model and what cost-price information is provided on the item details?
Depending on the setup, it can indeed remain zero.

    Updated:

Found that there is parameter 'Latest cost price' in released product, the parameter should be enabled otherwise, the system doesn't retrieve the stock cost in the standalone sales return order.

    Hi,

My client is using FIFO and we experience the same same problem for these Standalone or "Blind" return orders.
    Any solution to this?

Shouldn't the system is Running average cost?

Or is like this that the when we for example have negative quantity or negative amount, or both that the Running average is not being used but then instead the system picks teh default item cost price?
