Navision 4.0 Upgrade to 2015/16

To whom may have short answer.

We are a Small Business using Nav 4.  We will be upgrading. The local partner is suggesting nearly $25,000 of customisation.

My question - Is it possible initially to do a straight license upgrade from the current version with the relevant license and achieve the primarily financial management functionality of the upgrade - without doing detailed mapping of data.

We may once we are up and running discover that we are underutilising the functionality and at that point require customisation - but I am really trying to validate is there any Software or Platform variance between Nav 4 and the current version that mean we need to extensively customise or program the new version.

Hope someone with experience can help.

Many thanks

It strongly depends on the localization issues and the level of customization done in your current version. Microsoft stopped supporting such old versions, and recent localization updates are not anymore included - thus only partners may provide upgrades for legislation changes. Thus, it might be the case that newest version already includes your customizations by default.

Before doing license upgrade, I strongly recommend to verify the level of customizations needed. To be honest, NAV 2016 vs NAV 4 is not so more functional, so I guess 25 k you are facing is rather related to additional customized functionality that is not available in newest version anyway.

    Hi,

Is there any specific need of migration to newer version? Although it is advisable to go with latest version, however since it is more of related to cost, I thought of asking this question.

You would require to understand the customizations being done in your current version.

Are you aware about any customizations being done in current version or you are using the standard NAV 4.0 version.?

Latest NAV version already has extended capabilities, where you don't need much of the customizations. However as I am not aware about you current version, I can not comment about the need of any customizations / report development in newer version.

You can always ask you parter to have standard implementation in latest version and can start using it without having any migration of historical data. You can easily migrate your license to newer version, provided you are active on MS BREP.

You can start with simple setups, master & opening balance upload and can start using the basic financials in latest version within few weeks or even days (provided no customization, not even any reports).

Later, as you mentioned, you can choose to implement latest functionalities like Workflows, Cost Accounting & Cash Flow modules etc. available in latest version, as and when needed. You can easily get the required support from your partner for the same.

Pl. try to have the breakup of the efforts & cost from your partner (like Technical Migration, Report Development, Configuration & Setup, Training etc.)

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,
