Hi,

I am using NAV 2013. I was trying to use Configuration Package tool to update some Item Unit Price.

I imported the template but it shows me error. For each uploaded record, it says "You cannot change Costing Method because there are one or more ledger entries for this item."

But, we didn't change the Costing Method.

Can someone help?

Thanks

The error says that you are trying to change costing method of that item which is already having open item ledger entries.

    Check your package

    Hi Amol,

I was trying to update Item Unit Price, and the package only contains two fields: Item No. and Unit Price.    How does the imported data change the costing method?

Where you are updating the unit price .is it in item table or some other table

As well as which costing method you are using?

    Dear Allen C ,

    Costing method is a parameter

locate on your item card when you create the Item on First time this parameter will be set to to item

You cannot be change it for any reason : if you having even one single record on Ledger entries for relevant entries

If you need to change it you have to remove whole ledger entries ,  but i don't think this a good idea to remove ledger entries

check your importing data to : (Item Table)

The package you are trying to use is renaming the No. field, hence this error.

The package you are using is to update or insert items, please check.

It's Item Table. The Costing Method is FIFO.

If you already had posted item entries for that particular item, you would not be able to modify the costing method. Most likely you are trying to import the data in such a way that you modify the item card no and thus it activates the trigger of validation if the item entries exist.

Yes I completely agrees what Alexander says, Ideally what the code is trying to do is not possible if you have ledger entries in the Database. You need to cross verify what exactly you trying to achieve and somehow it's not trying to disturb the standard NAV business processes.

For learning purposes you can create a duplicate item and change the costing method. You can only select the costing method when you create the item and if you have made any transactions then you can't change the costing method . That means if the item is live you need to select the costing method before you start your transactions ( sales, purchase orders etc) when you made an item.
