Hello,
Has anyone used D365FO or Dynamics AX for Automotive industry?
1. The process starts with a sales order getting created for the car Dealers in D365FO at Car company.
2. When the supplier sends the VIN numbers to the Car company, it should assign the VIN#s per each Dealer on SOs.
Question 1 : If we assign VIN#s as a serial #, can the serial numbers be assigned to the sales order line (one SO per 1 car) before shipping? This is just a information update before receiving the actual car.
3. SO should automatically create a Purchase order to the Supplier.
Question 2 : When the serial #s (VIN#s) are updated on the sales order, can we have the serial #s get updated on the PO line at the same time if we create a Direct delivery order?
4. The car company receives the car at the port
5. Then they direct ship to each Dealer but it takes multiple days through the carrier.
6. But direct delivery in D365FO ships rights away when the receipt is done.
Question 3: Is there another way to handle this process in D365FO?
Thanks!
Indiguna
Thanks Damon, will check this out
Thanks Rahul! No, I haven't yet. Would you have any link to share on appsource for this type of a need?
if choosing to go without an ISV then may have to customize to perform automated task like PO creation, etc.
hope you have already explored appsource
Thank you Andre for your response!
6) Can you please elaborate this option?
is this another way of automatically creating a PO from SO without using the direct delivery?
Or did you mean manually creating a PO? What we are looking for is an automatic PO where the receiving happens at the time of manifest upload.
however it should not ship the vehicle on SO at the vehicle receipt time.

Hi Indiguna,
When you look at standard Dynamics 365, then you have the next options:
2) You can update the serial number on the sales order line. E.g. you can enable the visibility of this field on the grid using Dimensions display feature. Note that there are two option: Using the serial number as tracking dimension or just provide a number before shipping and don't track it at part of your inventory.
3) No. Usually a direct-delivery is driving the serial from the PO.
6) You can create purchase orders without a direct delivery option.
Note that these answers are a bit short and your process might not be completely fitting here. You have to consider a customization or have a look at ISV solutions.
Anyone handled this with a modification to D365FO or AX?
Thanks Damon. Will get in touch if we decide to move on this route.
