Physical Inventory incorrect on transfer orders

AX2009:  Live in AX 7/29/13

We're having trouble figuring out what is going wrong with our transfer order transactions that the inventory remains in the transfer warehouse as well as the destination warehouse.  We have a consultant telling us- this is OK as it's just a posting issue and that it's not wrong but Physical Inventory is the only place that I can see what we really have at a site(regardless of warehouse) and with inventory moving to a warehouse and not coming out of the transit warehouse- I can't tell what inventory we have.  Is our consultant correct- Is this normal?

If you have received all stock into the destination warehouse there should be no physical stock left in-transit. However we do not have the whole picture so we cannot say the consultant is wrong. Can you describe an example and add a screen shot?

    Thanks for your help:)

Here is an example where the same 57cases are in both transit warehouse FL-INT and warehouse FL-DC

Ok and what is the status of the transfer order? Is it fully received with all process complete? Simple test is if you filter without warehouse just on batch is the physical inventory double what you have? If so you have a problem if the transfer order is closed as your stock is doubling with each transfer. any customizations?

    Transfer order status is "Shipped"

Yes- When I filter by just Batch- the 57 cases is doubled in the total.

So if the problem is due to the transfer order not being "Closed" then what is the normal lag time that we might see inventory in both locations- seconds?  The consultant is telling me that often times the closing process is done periodically and not at the time of transaction (referring to other companies using AX).  This is crazy to me that we would leave the transfer order open when all inventory movement is complete.

Yes it's possible that we customized but not sure what.  I'm on the back end just trying to write a report of inventory on hand by site and this is hanging me up.  FYI- Our consultant is not a specific AX consultant so I question if he really knows but he is adamant that this is not wrong.

I thank you so very much for your help!

If the transfer order is not received the stock is not yet in the destination warehouse. Due to the many many ways this can be done the simplest approach for you is to ask the business the process steps. Yes they can periodically close transfers and allow the stock to process whilst cleaning up later, but it makes writing an external on hand report very very difficult. In summary they have done the registration part of the process but not the physical receipt which can show you what you are seeing. Look at a received transfer order and the transactions by batch and it will make sense, not that it is much help to you for what you are trying to do.

Yes- I see the difference when I look at a received transfer.  The physical inventory in the transfer warehouse is gone- go figure:-)

I will proceed as suggested-  Thank you very much!

    Hi

But in my case if I go for receiving the Transfer Order when I post it as received an error message showing the error message as insufficient inventory, on check I found the inventory is lying in the transit ware house. how do I resolve this issue

    Hello,

Have you determined now to get the bad inventory under the transit warehouse out of the system. We had product received directly into the in-transit warehouse and now we can not get it out. The return order is closed and invoiced for this transaction.

    Thanks
