Lot Sizes for Production Orders (MRP)

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi, I'd like to check if the standard NAV is able to fulfil the following scenario.

MRP: My planners need NAV to break down the suggested inventory to build to be based off an item's Lot Size. For example: Item A has a lot size of 500... so if there is an order of 2800 items, I need the system to recommend 6 production orders. Or at the very least round-up the recommendation to 3000.

Appreciate any advice.

    Hi,

yes it will, as long as you use the planning worksheet. The planning worksheet calculates all levels of your items.

You need to set the Lot size on respective item card accordingly.

Hi Francis, thanks for explaining how Lot Sizes work. I managed to fulfil my user's requirements. Just a little curious though, what happens when the Production Bom cascades down? Say for example Product A needs item B to be built and item B needs item C to be built. Will the Lot Size also work in this instance?

    Hi,

you can use the field Maximum order size and set it to 500. If the requirement exceeds 500 (i.e. 700) , MRP will propose you to create 2 orders, one for 500 and one for 200.

Additionally, you can use the minimum order size and set it to 500, to round up de the last one to 500 also.

You could also use the field order multiple and set it to 500 (without setting the Min and Max). in this case, MRP will propose an order of 1000, because the proposed quantity will Always be a multiple of 500.

My advice is Always to work in steps when learning these parameters. Start by using one parameter, investigate the result, and then you can start finetuning with the other parameters.

    I hope this helps you.
