Process manufacturing - Consolidation of batch order

(0) ShareShare

Hi,

Doubt:  I have a requirement from customer to consolidate batch order in process manufacturing.

Scenario: There is a formula item PAX-Croissant with formula lines of dough, chocolate filling. Production planning for the item is done on the basis of agreed sales orders for the next day and on the basis of forecasts. The requirement here from the customer is to use consolidate batch orders to consolidate the dough as a product from the planned production orders generated for the formula item PAX-Croissant for that day.

Question: Can anyone please suggest on how to consolidate the batch orders to consolidate the Dough?

    Hi Nitish,

I may need further information to help, but at a guess I would suggest looking at two things:

    1. the formula line type, it needs to be "item" in order to consolidate orders. If it is "pegged supply" it will create order for formula line for each order for croissant, not consolidate.
    2. the coverage group needs to be set to "period". This will group orders within the "coverage period", which by the sounds of it you want as one day.

With the above set, it should consolidate all requirements of "dough" into one order for each day.

If the above doesn't help then further information may be needed.

    Regards,

    Matt

    Hi Mathews,

    Thanks for the reply.

Should the coverage period be set for dough or the croissant to make it work?

I will try it out and let you about the proceedings

    Hi Nitish,

Your question was how to consolidate the batch orders for the dough. This is where the "line type" has to be checked.

If you are looking to consolidate orders for the PAX-Croissant, then you need to look at the coverage group on that item and set it to "Period" and set the values accordingly.

    Matt

    Hi Mathew,

To be clear, when the company takes in the Sales order for the croissants for that day, the system should be able to consolidate the orders for the dough from the sales order registered.  So, if i setup line type as "item"and coverage group set it to period will it work?

Well those are two settings that should help, but there are lots of other factors that influence this. Investigate that and update us with your progress.

    I'm not clear, are you:

    1. Trying to just lump all the demand together to get one batch order for Dough that will supply the days requirements of PAX-Croissant production? OR
    2. Trying to use true Consolidated Batch Order functionality (Production Control -> Common -> Consolidated Batch Orders?

If 1, Matthews tips are the path to head down.  If 2, you have a bit more setup to do, you should read this: technet.microsoft.com/.../hh352178.aspx

    Thanks Colby.

Let me explain in detail. There is a customer who produces various types of croissants and bread rolls. The production depends on the forecast and sales orders dues for that day.

Production shift is 2 shift of 12 hour each. For the manufacturing of croissant and bread rolls, dough is needed.  So each day, depending the on the forecast and sales orders the orders of dough needs to be consolidated into 1 single order and manufactured. The dough is needed to be stocked.

If any more details is needed please let me know.

Between, i tried setting up as Mathew said, while trying to firm the orders i got an error as that "selected formula number is not approved for a batch order"

    Hi Mathews,

    As you suggested,

Formula item: PAX-Croissant (Coverage group was set to period)

FOrmula line:  Dough ( Line type was set to item)

Created a sales order for item PAX-croissant of 300 qty. When master planning is run, only one plan order of 300 was created. No order for the dough. When tried to firm, i got this error

"selected formula number is not approved for a batch order"

    5.  details of sales orders/forecast on PAX-Croissant

Forecast has not been set, it can be a demand forecast of 400 each a day and sales order normal sales order per day. it can be assumed like 10 sales orders of 500 croissant each. Min order quantity is 400 of croissant.

    6. While firming, i get an error that selected formula number is not approved for the batch order. How to resolve it?
