Audit Log Table Size - huge reduction overnight!

(4) ShareShare

Posted on by 14
We have just seen a huge reduction in our audit log size, dropping from over 380GB to practically 0 across all our environments (prod / non-prod) overnight. This happened on the 12th of this month (January 2025).

The data still appears to be there, as we can see audit history dating back to 2019 when we implemented the system.

Is anyone aware of any recent announcements/changes that Microsoft have implemented that would change how this is either being stored (ie. moved to file storage) or reported on? If the later, does that mean we would still need to "reserve" the additional capacity or is this now significantly reduced that we can also significantly reduce our reservation?

Did you receive any update on this?
We also noticed the exact same situation where our AuditBase dropped to 0 on the 14th also.

    Hey!

From what I see this is an issue with the Reporting/Calculation.  As you've stated, data is there and can be queried but the reporting seems to have an underlying issue.

Microsoft is working on a fix for it, so we should have an udpate soon.  Hotfix is being deployed progressively but we should have the report working for most organizations along the weekend and the week of Jan 20-25.

    Regards,

Hey Everyone - as per the response below, this was indeed a reporting error for about a week... so the usage has bounced back to where it was.

Was hoping it was a permanent reduction then I don't have to implement a process to retaining audit history forever using some alternative options to keep the costs down whilst still having access to the audit data.

    Any update on it?
