GP 18.7 - Unable to install Analysis Cubes Server on Windows 2022

Hi,

Trying to install GP 18.7 Analysis Cubes Server on Windows 2022 server but getting the attached error message saying Work Station components needs to be installed. All the latest ODBC/OLEDB drivers and SQL Server Native Client are installed. Also have VS 2022 installed with SQL Server Data Tools extension. Not sure what exactly it is looking for. Same is working on Windows 2016 server but not just 2022 server.  Any insight is appreciated.

SQL Server 2022 support is added in 18.7.1801 January Hotfix and I have March hotfix applied. But the error appears right when you launch the Cubes installer itself.

Thank you

GP 18.7 - Unable to install Analysis Cubes Server on Windows 2022

    Hi Holly,

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond in detail. Greatly appreciated. I have my comments in Bold.

    1. Verify SQL Server Workstation Components Installation:  SQL 2022 package doesnt include Client tools
      • Ensure that SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and SQL Server Client Tools SDK are installed.
      • You may need to manually install SQL Server Workstation Components from the SQL Server installation media.
    2. Check Compatibility with Windows Server 2022: Tried but no luck
      • Since the installation works on Windows Server 2016, there may be compatibility issues with Windows Server 2022.
      • Try running the installer in compatibility mode for Windows Server 2016.
    3. Confirm ODBC/OLEDB Drivers: Downloaded the latest ODBC and OLEDB Drives and installed but doesn’t seem to work.
      • Ensure that the correct ODBC/OLEDB drivers are installed and match the SQL Server version.
      • You can download the latest SQL Server Native Client from Microsoft's official site.
    4. Review SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) Setup: It was a VS Addon and just installed.
      • Since you have Visual Studio 2022 installed with SQL Server Data Tools, verify that SSDT for Business Intelligence is correctly configured.
    5. Check for Missing Dependencies: Installed Integration, Analysis Service Data Tools downloaded online. Also installed AS AMO, AS ADOMD etc. components
      • Some components may require additional dependencies. Try installing Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable or other related SQL tools.
    6. Apply Latest Hotfixes: This is the part a little confusing. SQL 2022 support was added in Jan Hotfix, and it is just one *.msp file. ACubes is an independent tool installed separately from the GP installer package. You can only install it from Original Release package which itself is not working. I’m not sure then how do I apply the hotfix over it to make it work on SQL 2022. Moreover, I don’t know will this hotfix apply over this Acubes install when we try to install hotfix from *.msp file.
      • You mentioned applying the March hotfix—double-check that all patches are correctly installed.
      • Review the latest Microsoft Dynamics GP patch releases here.
    7. Run the Installer as Administrator: It is not an option as it is *.msi file.
      • Right-click the Cubes Installer and select Run as Administrator to ensure it has the necessary permissions.
    8. Check Logs for More Details: Log has the same exact message and no additional details.
      • Look at the Event Viewer logs or SQL Server setup logs for additional error details.

Good morning, afternoon, or evening depending on your location!

The error message suggests that the Microsoft SQL Server Workstation Components and Tools are missing, which is preventing the installation of Analysis Cubes for Microsoft Dynamics GP on Windows Server 2022. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

    Troubleshooting Steps:
    1. Verify SQL Server Workstation Components Installation:
      • Ensure that SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and SQL Server Client Tools SDK are installed.

    2. Check Compatibility with Windows Server 2022:

      • Try running the installer in compatibility mode for Windows Server 2016.
    3. Confirm ODBC/OLEDB Drivers:
      • Ensure that the correct ODBC/OLEDB drivers are installed and match the SQL Server version.
      • You can download the latest SQL Server Native Client from Microsoft's official site.
    4. Review SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) Setup:
      • Since you have Visual Studio 2022 installed with SQL Server Data Tools, verify that SSDT for Business Intelligence is correctly configured.

      • Right-click the Cubes Installer and select Run as Administrator to ensure it has the necessary permissions.
    8. Check Logs for More Details:
      • Look at the Event Viewer logs or SQL Server setup logs for additional error details.

    Hope this helps some!
