Hi Experts,

I have a doubt in cost accounting allocation.

Am giving below a requirement from my client. I have reduced the complexity of the requirement for simplicity so that experts can provide a solution.

Main question here is->>whether can we apply cost allocation in desired sequence. Do i need to create different cost allocations or single allocation. plz suggest

I have the same question (0)

    RE: Cost accounting allocation
    Hello Together, Hello Ludwig,
do you know how the system will follow the allocation in the right order?
I have an update from AX20012 to D365FO. and we have 800 Allocation lines with step-by-step (Stufenleiterverahren) allocation.
    That means we allocate
    1. Step CC100 to all other CC
    2. StepCC200 to allCC(without CC100)
    3. Step CC300 to allCC(without CC100 and CC200).
    ...
In AX2012 we have had the possibility to bring the allocation sequence in the right order by number.

At D365FO i can non find this posibility.
We can just try to avoid allocating back to cc100 or CC2000 by using statistic dimensions CC100 that have no reference to CC100 but allocation values for all other CC.
    That means:
CC100 allocation by statistic dimensions CC100 with allocation key to all CC (without CC100)
CC200 allocation by statistic dimensions CC200 with allocation key to all CC (without CC200)
    CC300...
Other possibilities to use allocation hierarchies to limit the allocation dimensions(e.g. Hierache node Alloc100 with all CC without CC100, Alloc200 with all CC without CC100, and CC200

Both possibilities is a lot of definition if we have 800 allocation line. ANd I'm not sure the System brings the sequence in the right order.
    Thx in advance Roland

    Good Morning Pranav,

Great to hear that you found how to configure this.

Agree that the setup is not that easy and that you need a lot of testing.

Please let us know if your question has been answered.

If it has then please verify the answer by selecting the yes button further above.

    Many thanks and best regards,

    RE: Cost accounting allocation

    Hi Ludwig,

Finally i was able to achieve it. The trick was to build a hierarchy in control units.

Frankly to say, the link only helped in giving a basic understanding of cost accounting module. I went through your blog post too on cost accounting and it was extremely resourceful.

    Hello Pranav,

Did you have the chance to take a look at the documents on MS docs?

Have you tested and tried to implement it in your demo/test environment?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Good Morning Pranav,

Here is the official MS docs site:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../cost-accounting-home-page

I also posted a number of posts on my blog where you can find some additional information/screenprints/etc.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Thanks Ludwig for this reply. Its happy to hear that there's a solution for this. Could you please send me the ms documents link where such a solution is present. As far as I remember, MS has not explained any kind of configuration on these lines

    Thanks

    Pranav

    RE: Cost accounting allocation

    Hi Pranav,

Two step allocations are supported as well.

The setup is, however, a bit 'tricky'.

Please have a look at MS docs; if I remember it correctly then there is an example how this can be realized.

Also, have a look at the MS contoso demo box.

There is a cost accounting ledger 'USP2' setup there, which makes use of more than a single cost control unit.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi André Arnaud

Thanks for responding. I have made necessary modifications by providing expln. Hope this would be clear.

    Thanks,

    RE: Cost accounting allocation

Thanks Ludwig for replying. I was able to allocate the cost amongst cost centers. But I was not able to reallocate the cost from cost centers to product groups. So my question is ->>Does D365 fo handle allocations only amongst one kind of cost object, or does it even handle cost re-allocation from cost centers to product groups.

The process which i followed in d365 fo is to allocate it initally from indirect CC to direct CC.  This worked perfectly. Subsequently the re-allocation from direct CC to product groups was failing. Please let me know if there is any setup to handle this.

    RE: Cost accounting allocation

    Good Morning Pranav,

My last information is that the cost accounting module is making the multi step allocations that you highlighted in the file automatically. That's part of the allocation logic and included in the code. The continuous allocation iteration ends when the amount remaining on the various cost centers/findims is <0.01

Please make the respective setup in a demo test environment and test those allocations.

Pretty sure that you should be getting the expected outcome if you configure things correctly.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
