Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 Update Installer latest release

Hi Everyone,

I have a question regarding the Update Installer tool for Dynamics AX 2012 R3.

If I run it today, the latest release I can select is the "Most recent", containing all the KBs released before August 19, 2019.

Will there be (and if so, when) an update to this list to include the latest KBs (released after august 2019)?

Hi Nicola,

Great question. I don't know the answer. Have you tried to select the 'most recent' option and verified if it contains also more recent fixes after August 19, 2019? The mainstream support for Dynamics AX 2012 R3 was extended until October 12, 2021. So personally, I would expect some more updates here.

Hi André,

that's the reason why I'm asking :)

I needed to install a specific KB released on October 2019 (for which the download button on the LCS issue page was missing) and I couldn't find it with the Update Installer.

I opened a support request and they sent me a link to a package which contained the KB along with a bunch of other hotfixes (around 200 KBs). The only problem is that it's not possibile to choose what to install and all 200+ KBs have to be installed.

Sorry for the delay. The fix has been rebuilt, you can download it from https://download.microsoft.com/download/8/f/2/8f21cd37-60f2-46ac-a166-e0ae12350baf/DynamicsAX2012R3-KB4521670.EXE.

Hi Anup,

thank You for your help.

Unfortunately, the link you provided is the same I got from Support.

As you can see below, inside the package there are multiple KBs, including the one I want (the last one) but I'm not able to select it. The only option is to install the entire package.

For the record, I've tried installing it via powershell, selecting the .axmodel file described in the hotfixinformation.xml, with the following error.

The current CU installed is, in fact, the CU11.

I know that it would be recommended to keep the system up to date but i think the the problem would still remain. I would still be unable to install the specific KB.

Any other ideas?

In the update installer, which components did you select for update?

When you install binary updates (all components except "Database" which is the x++ codebase) you can't pick individual KBs, instead the update is always cumulative.

So, perhaps you should first update all binary components to the latest version, then try if you can pick only the one x++ update for installation.

Hi Nikolaos,

In the update installer I selected both binary and application updates.

I honestly didn't try to update the binary first, because the most recent CU contains all updates released before August 19, 2019 (as shown in the first picture i posted).

Since the KB I need was released on October 20, 2019 I figured that was the reason why it was not showing up in the list.

On the other hand, the link provided by Anup contains indeed the KB, but is not physically possible to select it (practically speaking, there is no checkbox that can be flagged).

Just to be clear and see if we are all on the same page..

when I run the update installer (downloaded from LCS), I can choose from which CU the tool will retrieve the hotfix list and, after that, I can select the individual KBs

Instead if I run the package provided by Anup, the tool will just list all the KBs inside, without the possibility to choose which one to install.

Is it possibile that installing the latest binary updates will change the behaviour of the tool and let me select the specific kb?

I suggest you to try it. I don't have any definite answer because it's been a while since I played around with AX2012 updates.

At least after installing the binary update you would most likely be able to install the kb model manually. But this could lead to other issues, if the code in the model has dependencies to other stuff, so you would be doing it at your own responsibility.
