I'm writing a routine to detect and alert on failed workflows.
Is there a simple way of making a new workflow and causing it to fail?
Thanks

Hi
I have done this before for a CRM Admin user and there are 2 things to do
1) Write a Custom Action to send an email when the process session = "Required Status"
we ended up just creating an admin dashboard that had several views with todays failures, pending, not complete etc
Thanks for the info, but the client specifically want to use SCOM so that's what I'm working with ;)
ok,
Much easier then
Have you looked into this
blogs.technet.microsoft.com/.../system-center-management-pack-for-dynamics-crm-2016-is-now-available
Yes, I've seen it and am looking into what it monitors. From what I can see it doesn't pick up failed workflows - which is why I'm trying to work out how to make a workflow that fails ;)
I think you can get a workflow to fail by attempting to set a value for a field that's invalid. For example, update a field that has a max length of 100 to 101+ characters or set a numeric value outside the bounds of what's allowed.
Thanks for that Tim - just what I needed
