Price Updating

Hi

I am in a middle of big issue.

We have around 70k Items in the NAV, now we have to do a mass price update from various suppliers.

Each supplier may have around 100- 5000 items.

This price update will take place in every certain interval too. Is there any way where i  can do a mass price updating of

of price keeping the previous Price change history ? ( we have changed the price of many items few months back )

so i want to know when was the last price change done, and when that was ended and all.

i tried to download the file using rapid star but the file coming with same item 2- 3 times for each price change.

so if i do manually by inserting the line after the item with end date it will take months to finish.

can any one suggest me a better option to upgrade the price keeping the history too

    RE: Price Updating

    Hi Sumesh,

With standard NAV the only way to do it is via configuration packages. You then need to figure out how to make your life easier in excel. Since this is an annual exercise (next year you are going to face the same issues), I advise you to have your developer extend the Sales Price Worksheet function to handle Purchase Prices too. Thanks,

    RE: Price Updating

    Hi Sumesh

This should work for you and no need to insert lots of extra lines:

Export the table through RapidStart but you should first be able to set a Filter on the RapidStart so it only outputs the lines with a Starting Date on or after the oldest one you want to keep.  Or, if you already have Ending Dates on the now expired prices and it's only ones with blank Ending Dates that you need to update then you should be able to set filter Ending Date is empty ''.

Make a couple of copies of the resulting RapidStart spreadsheet.  On one copy leave the Starting Date as it is but set the Ending Date to the day before your new prices need to take effect (I'm assuming it's the same for all items).  On the second copy, change the Starting Date to the date the new prices need to take effect and either set an Ending Date now if you know when those prices should expire or leave it blank if not.  Obviously change/increase the prices on this second copy through whatever means you are using.

The Key on the Purchase Price table includes on Item No., Vendor No., Unit of Measure Minimum Quantity, etc., and Starting Date but *not* Ending Date, so importing the first copy of your spreadsheet will update the existing lines (i.e. the ones with blank Ending Dates) and will set those for you.  Importing the second sheet, because the Starting Date will be different, will mean NAV treats them as new lines.

You can test on a small number of your items first by also setting a filter on Item No.

In case you haven't seen it, to set Filters, select the table in your RapidStart Config. Package Card then click the Table menu in the lines section, where you'll have most likely have previously seen and used the 'Package Data' and 'Fields' options at least, you should also see 'Filter' as an option and you can set normal NAV filters against one or more fields in the table to limit how much data it exports (but it doesn't affect what it imports, if I remember correctly).  Be sure to clear the filters when you've finished though.  And as with anything, do your testing in a separate test NAV environment first.  And, as it's so many lines it's going to take a while so try to do the main import out of normal hours to a) reduce impact on others' performance and b) reduce chance that people may try to place an order and find NAV hasn't got any current prices if you've done the first import but not the second one.

    Regards

    Paul

    RE: Price Updating

    Hi Sumesh,

In my opinion, you need to customize system (as we did for some customers). Process includes:

    1. Browse Excel file containing the latest purchase price of items.

    2. For each item, find existing available price of item, and update Ending Date (as Starting Date - 1 of new price).

    3. Insert new price.

    Hope it help you!

I would suggest ask developer to write a XMLPORT to upload the prices..

    RE: Price Updating

    Dear Manish

    Thank Your for your guidance.

Yes i want to update the purchase price only,

So you mean to say i should download the item list through Rapid start and insert a new line  ?

my issue is i have around 70000 items in the list. so inserting new line after each line will be difficult.

or do you mean to say that i just create a new list with new price and the start period and just upload?

will it take the record respectively below to the last price change?

how can i add a closing date for all the 70K items ?

    Waiting for your expert opinion.

    Thanks

    RE: Price Updating

You are talking of purchase price right ?

Is yes then you can insert new price in the purchase price table with effective start date as of today & keep the end date as blank.

For previous price enter the end date, this way you will know the history of purchase price change.
