Insert / update field to space character

If I go into table browser, put the cursor in a field, and type the space key, I can successfully store a space in the database. However, all my attempts to update / insert records in X++ with a space character result in "" instead. Any suggestions for how to update a field to store " " in X++?

    Hi Baber. Thank you for the suggestion. It comes close, but doesn't quite solve the problem. I do need the space character to be stored in the database, not added at runtime.

    The interesting thing about this is that it's possible to open Table Browser and manually put a space in a field: that's accepted and stored in the database. It does seem, however, that X++ is incapable of doing the same.
