Query all report variables

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I hope this isn't a silly question, but either my google-fu isn't strong enough or there isn't an easy way to do this.

Whenever I can do something myself instead of having my VAR do it, I'll try to cease the opportunity. Note that I don't go into the development environment, I'm only talking about the "safe" stuff inside NAV itself.

Right now I'm having a stab at creating Word report lay-outs.

I'm having limited succes, in the sense that I can make them and get them to work, but there are a LOT of XML variables.
While they do have a somewhat descriptive name, between the short names, the modifications my VAR has made and the admittedly weird workflow our company has it's not easy to determine the correct variables to use.

Is there an easy way to find out which variable outputs what field?

So far I've been entering a batch of the XML variables in my document and typing their name next to it to see what the output is, but this is a tedious work.
I'm hoping there's a function like the "run report" function that can list every XML variable with their respective outputs next to it, or another way that I can find a certain function without going through every single one on a trial-and-error basis.

Thanks in advance!

    Thanks!

That somewhat answers my question, even though it doesn't solve my problem.

I'll need to continue with my trial and error method.

Ideally, I'd still like to find a way to add all the XML control elements to the Word template at once, instead of right-clicking every single one, selecting "insert control element" -> "insert without formatting" (or whatever the English translation would be)

That's a Word problem though, not a Navision problem.

Do you mean that you want to know if there's an easy way to know what is the source of a field X in the report layout?

This is handle by code in the report dataset and there's not an easy way to do so. You need to check the dataset code.
