How to bring existing environments (production and UAT) to LCS

My production server (AX 2012 R3, CU10) and UAT have been implemented (on azure) without creating LCS project. It is updated with CU10. When ever I try to update with latest CUs, direct me to login LCS. I have  the customer source account. But there is no clear instruction as to create LCS on existing environments. Please help me on how to update cu13 even without creating LCS, if it is not possible, direct me how to create LCS on existing UAT and Production server.

I have the same question (0)

Implementing AX 2012 in Azure is supported only if you deploy from LCS. So your system is deployed in an unsupported way. See this article: docs.microsoft.com/.../plan-2012-r3-deployment-azure

About CU13 update, you should not need LCS for that. I googled "dynamics ax 2012 r3 cu13 download" and found this - no LCS required: www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

However you can try to connect the system to LCS by running System Diagnostics Tool in your AX server.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../install-run-system-diagnostics-lcs

But you can't install AX2012 updates via LCS anyway.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I downloaded the same before, but during the installation, system prompted two options, 1st to install from LCS, 2nd is asking 'select previously downloaded dynamics ax 2012 r3 update package to install', I have no clue about this. Please help me.

Did you try the first option? It means that the installer downloads the actual update from internet. When you do it, you can choose to save the downloaded package for further installations. And in those further installations you can then use option 2.

The idea is that you download the update once (when updating dev), then use the same downloaded update for test/prod).

Did you read R3 CU13 installation guide? You can find it with web search, and should definetely read it  and plan your update process.

Yes sir, I did read. It says " If AX 2012 R3 is already installed, you must use the Dynamics R 3 Update installer and complete the update process to apply CU 13". Then I tried to download, failed can not download. Seems, it has not been resolved by MS. MS knows that most of the AX 2012 projects are unsupported, but no clear instruction for cumulative updates.

I have used it succesfully in many cases, without having environments linked to LCS.

Could you share some more details about how it failed, with screenshots, error messages or any other info?

Perhaps you are trying to run it on a server that has firewall blocking access to internet?

I could download 'Dynamics R 3 Update installer' after creating dummy LCS project. Let me try tomorrow since it is a holiday here in Qatar (so users are not available). Then I will update you the outcome. Anyway thank you very much for your support and quick responds.

    Hi,

I could not give you a update regarding cu13 update. Installation went on without any problem, Then during the check list, upgrade stuck on data upgrade cockpit. Read so many article and followed. still the same situation. My last hope to do the same on production environment. There is no any other solution. Do you know any body done this update on ax 2012 r3 on azure.

    Thanks and best regards

    Nimal

You should NOT upgrade your prod before succesfully upgrading UAT. What do you mean by "stuck" here? Please check that you have associated an AOS for running batches in "Data upgrade" batch group. And that batch processing is enabled for that AOS.

You can check the first thing in Batch groups form, and the second one in Server configuration form in System administration module.

Your issue has nothing to do with Azure. But I still suggest you plan to bring your system into supported state by redeploying it from LCS. However that's another story than this CU13 upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. Why I am going for cu13, in order to resolve my data export import utility (DIXF) working. Due to a bug in CU10, it is not working. cannot import data from excel. It was mentioned that issue has been resolved in cu13. This is the only purpose that I am upgrading to CU13.

    Hi all,

I tried to update CU13 on AX 2012 r3 (unsupported), failed twice. then I tried to update CU13 only by selecting Data export import framework module. Cockpit process went on nicely, then during database synchronization, start errors appearing. I marked it as completed, then proceeded until check list of upgrade completion. Then start running the client, still check list is opted. I ignored and continued. But can not access purchase orders, GL Accounts, different errors appeared.

My question is can't we update CU13 without technical (developer) person.

Secondly, is it possible to open support request on this issue.

Is there any proper step by step instruction as to update CU13 (not the installation manual).

    Please give your feedback.
