AxUtil schema, what does it do?

Hi everyone,

Who here knows exactly what "AxUtil schema" does and when to execute it? From what I understand it either creates a schema for the model store, or it updates an existing schema (create/modify indexes, fields in the model store tables?).

It's not clear to me when you should execute the command. Should you do it after installing a kernel fix? Should you do it after installing an application fix? Both? Would you recommend executing it every time after installing a fix or CU? Can it hurt?

Thanks

Create an empty model store that is associated with the specified schema, update the existing schema for a model store, or remove a non-default model store.

Model schemas are not changed when hotfixes are installed.

But when you are doing a CU upgrade or similar then it is very important you run it.

I didn't realize how important it was until I accidentally ran into problems my self.

    Hi guys,

    Thank you for you answers.

Allow me to share my findings:

I notice that some kernel fixes do change the modelstore schema. For this reason, I would recommend that after installen a kernel fix, you always run this command:

    axutil schema

(so just this without any parameters, maybe except for the server (/s:) and database (/db:) you want to apply it to.

This will update the schema of the modelstore so it is up to date. If you do not do this, you can get all kinds of errors, both while working with AX or AxUtil. It can never hurt to run this command either.

As Dick says, you can also using it to import the modelstore into a temporary schema, en then also use it to apply that schema. I would also suggest using this method so that you can decrease the time that your production environment is offline.
