Import and re initialisation of custom roles using xml or data management

I have two environments A and B that have custom roles in them (custom by the functional space and not development), I exported the custom securtiy packages of both (containing the 3 entities of role, duty and privilege) and then used data management to import all roles from env A to env B.

The problem is there were many custom changes in other roles/duties/privileges that I wasn't aware of that got imported to env B (which is a production environment).

I want to return env B to its old configurations without the addition of all these imported security configurations, is there a way to do so? is it possible using data management (I noticed that the configuration is reset with another import of package but the new additions weren't deleted, it only updated the existing similartites but didn't touch the new security items added)

Hi,

There's no automatic rollback for security imports in D365 F&O. Data Management only adds or updates roles/duties/privileges — it does not delete anything.

Options you can try:

Restore from backup if available.

Manually delete unwanted roles/duties from Security Configuration.

Re-import a clean security config (if you had exported before).

Use Excel or tools like Fastpath to compare and clean up.

Always test imports in a sandbox and keep backups of your security exports.
