String truncation issue, after changing the size

Hello,

I've changed the Extended data type "RetailVariantId" size from 10 to 30. Done sync db.

Prior to this, data exists in the system.

Experiencing weird behaviour in the system(Not always).

1. Entering field more than size 10, giving error( SQL error description: [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 11.0]String data, right truncation). However accepting the values.

2. open the form second time(after few minutes saving the entries), the string is truncated to size 10.

3. Open the form, next day value displays actual (not truncated).

Requesting you to share your experience to resolve this .

it seems a random behavior, seems database is not synchronized properly. have you given a try to full Database synchronization?

note that usually increasing length should not be an issue, as long as you finish DB synch successfully. reducing length can be a disaster.

I would recommend you full database sych and fix all issues of synch. As you may be aware that if any EDT is being used in any of views which are based on union queries the corresponding field of union query from other datasoucre should be of same length, as the one you are modifying. This is a very common mistake done by developers while changing length of edt(s)

Thanks Sohaib, I'll do the full db sync .

BTW, other folks may drop their valuable suggestions.

I had a similar issue and the problem was I modified a field in a table, that was used in a map that combine with other tables. The solution was to set the same EDT to all related tables in the MAP.

Full sync + AOS restart seemed to do the trick for me.

    Edit: typo
