Configuring scheduled cycle counts through the journal

Hi,

I'm probably being very stupid here, but I can't see how to fully configure a cycle count. I've gone through Stock (Inventory) & warehouse management > Journals > Item Counting > Counting. I've created 3 counts based on the ABC counting groups. They pulled out all of the lines I was expecting.

The problem is this: scheduling. I cannot see where I can create the number of (what would be called in manufacturing) slots. E.g. We expect to count 26 items every day. These might be 4 'A' items, 9 'B' items, and 14 'C' items. Is it possible to tell AX 2012 that we have 26 slots per day, we need all A items to be counted every 3 weeks, B items every 5 weeks, and C items every 8 weeks. If so, does the software then create a plan of what items are going to be counted when? Will it create alerts for the relevant counters identifying their count jobs for the day?

The technet article that seemed most relevant - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn553209.aspx - was useless as I am not seeing the same options. There is no 'Cycle Counting' module in Setup on S&WM.

If you could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Will

The article you referenced is correct, but references the R3 release, which is apparently newer than what you have.

The new warehousing solution added more in terms of counting capabilities, which is also described in the article.

    Thanks Ivan. That's frustrating...

Frustrating maybe. But think of it another way. In R3, you can count like you do now or you get a whole new other way, which is probably more flexible and powerful!

I assume you pulled out the lines you were expecting to count using the Create -> 'On hand' functionality. Have you also looked at the Counting code = 'Period' on the Counting group? I believe you can define how often items in each Counting group should be counted (in combination with the 'Activate counting code' tick box).

By the way, the official documentation for the 'Create -> On Hand' form is somewhat missing. I found this, but it relates to the Create -> Items functionality:

Thanks for that Guy - that is more or less exactly what I was looking for (looking at the period definitions). Having updated all of the periods, it now comes down to finding out when the counting lists are created, how they are created, and who they are assigned to.

E.g. is the counting group calculated at midnight each night, and a checklist created to show each item needed to be counted emailed to the relevant person in Stores? Do the lists have to be manually created?

    Hi Will,

I don't think AX will be able to help too much with your other questions. You assign items to Count groups manually. I think you're going to have to create the count journals manually, and manually run 'Create -> On hand'.
