Process Manufacturing Yield

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone has experience with manufacturing yields that vary frequently.  How does AX handle a variable yield.  If a finished product requires a certain yield - but the production order for it does not yield the expected amount?   Is a new production order generated??

Even further on this topic, the products that we have the most variation on yield are actually intermediate ingredients - so like subformulas - how can AX handle a production order for an intermediate (possibly a pegged supply) product - that does not yield enough for the finished good - will AX automatically generate a production order for the additional amount needed??  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

The only thing faster than MP I know is an alert rule ;-)

Instead of a planned order you get an alert and could use that to initiate a new production order.

Thanks for your reply, my only concern is that for MP to generate the new planned order we actually have to run master planning, but what if we need to create the additional ingredient right away - and don't want to wait for master planning to generate the order?

    Hi RoDAXGal,

I am not sure, what your expectation is.

If your consuming order requires a certain quantity of intermediate ingredients, and the delivering order does not supply enough quantity, MP would generate a new planned order.

That is perfect if you have to make sure, that the demand of the consuming order has enough intermediate ingredients.

It is however not perfect, if:

    - you are missing only let's say 5 gramm

    - you have a fixed lot size of let's say 50 KG for additional intermediate ingredients

    - you are not allowed to mix batches of your intermediate ingredient

    - you can very well execute your supplying order. The shortage of 5 gramm intermediate ingredient would just reduce your output by an accepted amount.

If this is the case and you want to avoid additional planned orders, you have to adjust production formula based on output of intermediate ingredient.

There are other scenarios, which would require other solutions, so without knowing the exact situation, it is difficult to suggest.

    Best regards,

To create a new formula, you must first create a formula version before you add the formula line items with their specific characteristics. Every formula must have at least one version. The Approved button on a formula version becomes available only after a version record has been successfully saved. Each formula version record is associated with one or many co-products and by-products that can be produced as you produce the finished product. Many products can be made from the same ingredients in different batch sizes, multiples, or using different yields. You can create as many versions of a formula as needed.

To manage multiple active formula versions, use effective date ranges or from quantity fields. Multiple active formula versions can exist only if the date range and from quantity do not overlap.
