Dynamic segment based on redirect link clicked

Posted on by 40

Hi all,

I have created a Dynamic segment (see below):

pastedimage1604056162401v1.png

My personal logic behind this is, that I am taking Static Segment, and I want to EXCLUDE all of those, that have clicked on specific link in a specific message. The original URL in reality is not to FB, but company's homepage.

I have also set up a redirect link, that has as Original URL the URL used in Dynamic Segment (if that makes sence).

However for some reason, this Dynamic segment is pulling all of the contacts from the Static segment, no matter if they clicked or didn't click the link provided in the message.

Is there any way to exclude somebody in Dynamic segment based on the clicking on a link in the marketing email?

Or does it have to be something else, e.g. registering for an event/updating GDPR consent on the contact/something that can be tracked down to contact itself?

We want to use this dynamic segment as a starting point in the customer journey's swimlane.

Thank you

RE: Dynamic segment based on redirect link clicked

    Hi Nikolai,

I am sorry it took me so long to reply to your comment.

Unfortunatelly when i used redirect link clicked, it didn't bring back any contacts that have clicked on that link (I have tested that).

I didn't use it in supression logic, because I want to use it in a swimlane in customer journey. So what I did:

    • I created a dynamic segment with different logic (Website visited):

    pastedimage1604581358139v1.png

This brought back all of the contacts in database, who have previously visited that specific page (which was okay, because following point).

    • I have used static segment (Swimlanes+single email test) as a starting point in the swimlane + used the dynamic segment (Swimlanes+single email test 1) to exclude those, who have visited the website:

In here the problem was, that it only took contacts from the static list and didn't exclude those which were in the dynamic list.

As far as I understood this, when I have Jack Black as a contact in static list and he did click on the page, therefore he is a part of dynamic list, he should be automatically excluded from the list. So if one contact is in both lists, the logic in that segmentation should prevent them to follow that swimlane further down.

I am really confused by this at the moment, why these two instances haven't been working out for me.

    Thanks for your help

RE: Dynamic segment based on redirect link clicked

    Hello MaiElorym,

You could create dynamic segment based on Redirect link clicked(the second clause group), then setting it to the suppression segment field of your customer journey.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/marketing/customer-journeys-create-automated-campaigns#add-a-suppression-segment

In addition, please also click the Flow view tab to check whether your logic is correct in visualized way.
