Quantity for Lot Number Assignment in Manufacturing

Hi:

In Released Production Orders in Manufacturing, the Components window used to assign lot numbers is expecting more quantity for each component than what is required.

This forces the end user to have to correct each line item quantity in order to be allowed to change the order's status to "Finished".

Why is this happening?

Thanks!

John

    Hello,

If it always happens  the first I suggested to review is the unit of measures relation for each item. What is the base unit of measure? Vomponentes are expecting for base unit of measure or antoher related UoM? On components page quantities are correct?

    hi,

What is the Expected QTY in component line before you assign Lot. Also, do you have any scrap rate built in that increase the QTY?

    Hi MahGah:

The Expected Qty. in the Components window, for whatever reason, is greater that the quantity called for in the Production BOM -- for each component!  It's very strange.

Now, three of the twelve Work Centers in the Routing each call for 2% scrap.

Would scrap affect all components like this?

    Thanks!

    John

    It is strange

What do you have in Rounding Precision in item card for components? I mean let say in BOM for components in BOM you used 1.52 but  Rounding Precision in that component item is 1 then system will go to 2 because of that.

    Hi MahGah:

    It's 1.  Should I set it to 0?

it should set to the number of digits that you need. Like .00001 it think the max is 5 digits. It all depends on your BOM. Like if you have consumption in BOM as 1.12345  then you need 0.00001

What amount should it be set to correctly pull the quantity from the Production BOM?

I'm surprised that this setting has to be used.  I would have thought that this would have been just as simple as pulling the quantity from the BOM.  Weird.  :)

I wish I could tell you the exact number. It all depends on part

For example let say you have 1 sheet of metal. Then your consumption is 1.5 if the second half is useable somewhere else then you can set your Rounding Precision on 0.01 but if the second half is not useable then it is better to use 1

Both QTY in BOM and Rounding Precision plays rule here. QTY on BOM round based on Rounding Precision.

Please try this on one item (you need to refresh production order or create new one) to see if this is the actual cause.
