How do I increase the user session timeout timer?

Hello experts,

I am currently looking for a possible way to increase the user session timeout limit.

Not for CRM, but for D365 Finance and operations.

Links such as https://community.dynamics.com/crm/b/nishantranaweblog/archive/2017/11/17/configure-session-timeout-and-inactivity-timeout-dynamics-365 does not work, because there is no such option in D365 Finance and operations.

The closest answer, but not fully answered reply which I have found requires the configuration of web.config inside AOSService. However, there was no one pointing out which property which I should change to adjust the timeout session limit.

I would like to know if this is possible for D365 Finance and operations.

If not, is there any other alternative, such as altering the IIS options, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

Lincoln

RE: How do I increase the user session timeout timer?

Please follow the steps that mentioned in the following document

    docs.microsoft.com/.../session-idle-timeout

To change the value, follow these steps:

    1. From the dashboard, select the System Administration workspace.

    2. Select System Settings. This opens the System parameters page.

    3. In the Session management section, set Session idle timeout in minutes.

    4. Select Save.

This feature is available as of Platform update 29

Not seen anything about timeout in D365FO

For Dev box, try time out on RDP session

I know this may be a dead thread, but it looks like it hasn't been answered to anyone's satisfaction yet.

Does anyone else know how to determine a) the current timeout settings so we can notify the business what to expect and b) what the possibilities are of editing the timeout setting for the client.

RE: How do I increase the user session timeout timer?

    Hello André

Thank you once again for the reply.

In our case, we, the programmers, are doing testing and evidence-taking (post-development, entering testing phase) using our individual development environment.

Since data testing + evidence-taking is pretty rigorous and time-consuming, session timeout always occurs while we are in the midst of it, and it can get pretty frustrating when we are working with multiple tabs/ pages.

If we could somehow unlimit the session timeout/ lengthen the session timeout, it will be a lot work-efficient for us.

    Kind regards

    Lincoln

    Hi Lincoln,

In my opinion it has no real value to extend the session timeout on a development machine. Usually, you will open and test the application once you have built something. When doing a build, it will also reset the connections.

RE: How do I increase the user session timeout timer?

    Hello André

Thank you so much for the reply.

My apology for not stating which environment the extending of session timeout is intended for.

I was actually trying to find a way to extend the session timeout for development environment (Specifically for the developers, who are using the Azure and if possible, on-premise environment).

So, according to what you've mentioned, the extending of session timeout for production environment could not be changed via setting, and must look for some other alternative way or advice via Microsoft side?

And as for the on-premise environment, you have not really experiment much around with it because you are mainly working with the cloud deployments...got it.

Thank you so much for the reply once again.

If anyone else has experience with the adjustment of value for session timeout, please shed some light.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards

    Lincoln

    Hi Lincoln,

If your question is related to the cloud deployments of Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, then you cannot control the value yourself on a production environment. In that case, log an incident for Microsoft Support and explain the business scenario why the time out needs to be enlarged.

For on-premise, there could be indeed a setting in the web.config file, but as I have worked with cloud deployments only, I haven't looked at these settings.
