Jobs and Sell-To / Bill-To functionality

Does anyone know why the Jobs module does not share the (standard) Sell-To / Bill-To functionality that, for example, a Sales Order has? You can only enter a Bill-To on the Job record and the code continually checks that the customer record does not have a Bill-To account set. There must be a reason for this deliberate piece of coding which I need to understand before I work out the best way to add this functionality.

    Jiju

That may well be why there is no Ship-To functionality on jobs. But in my experience, and the case in hand for my current client, 'Jobs' are often undertaken for distributed businesses (i.e. those with many subsidiaries and trading addresses), but where payment is made from a central office. You clearly need the address where the work is to be conducted on the job, but in this case also need to be able to identify to where the invoice should be directed. Credit checking should be done against the central office not the individual company etc.

The fix is simple enough but I am concerned that there may be  a latent problem say with WIP valuation later on. Given that the issue has been raised many times but Microsoft have neither fixed it nor explained it I just have this nagging doubt that I have missed something.

    Hi Peter,

In my opinion (just my opinion), there is no sales of any items.

So there will be no Sell to/ Ship to.

Job is just a service and only billing is done for such service.

    That could be the reason.

    (This is my opinion only)

    RE: Jobs and Sell-To / Bill-To functionality

I want to understand why the code is like it is - i.e. prevents you from setting up a bill-to against a customer you are assigning to a job. What is the business reason for this constraint? I don't want to have to read through thousands of lines of code in the hope I might stumble across the reason, and Microsofts' documentation is, as usual, inept. There have been several similar posts (on Mibuso) over the years, but none have been answered. It is likely that the problem was answered but the post not updated.

The fix, on the surface, is simple enough. But deep within the code there may lurk a sting in the tail.
