MFA from desktop client on server

Posted on by 50

We are trying to enable MFA on the Web Client. We have it enabled on the desktop client and it works fine.

I have tried to email a basic report from the full GP install that is on the server where the GP Web client runs off of and I can’t, I get this error: Unable to connect to target server location. Contact your system administrator.

I can however email this report from my GP local full install from my desktop with no issue.

Have you seen this issue before? Are we missing something on the server? Could something be blocking this? I have updated the .net on the server to 4.8 but this didn’t help.

RE: MFA from desktop client on server

Thanks for the reply Derek. I can email these reports from my local GP install on my laptop. But, when I try and email out of the GP client that is installed on my server, I get the error: Unable to connect to target server location. Contact your system administrator.

I can't enable MFA on our Web Client as our Web Client runs off the server that I talk about above.

My support partner has opened a support ticket for this issue.

RE: MFA from desktop client on server

Can you email either of these two reports from Web Client?

    >> Financial Trial Balance

     1. Click on Financial > Reports > Trial Balance

     2. In the report window that opens, select a report such as 'Summary' and then highlight the report option such as 'demo' and click Modify.

     3. In the report options window, click the 'E-mail Options' button add your email address in the TO: field. Click OK to save changes.

     4. Back in the report options window, select that option again that you just did setup for and then click the 'Email' button in the menu. You should see a Progress/Generating Email window before you receive the email and report attachment.

    >> User Notes report

     1. Click on Administration > Reports > System > Users

     2. In the User Reports window that opens, click 'New...', unless you already have a report option available for use. If you do, jump to step #6.

     3. In the report options window, name the option and then choose a range of user(s) to put into the report and click Insert. Save changes.

     4. Bring up this same report option created and click the 'Email Options' button at the bottom right-hand side of the window.

     5. In the 'Email Options' window, put your email address in the 'TO...' field, to send the email to, click OK to save changes. Close the User Report Options window.

     6. Back in the User Reports window, select this report option and click Insert.

     7. Highlight this report option and click the 'Email' button in the menu across the top of this window. You may briefly see a progress window open and close.

     8. Verify you receive this email that was just sent. It may take a couple of minutes.

I usually test either of these two reports to verify whether Modern Auth email is working or not, as neither use templates or any of the additional setup that Sales or Purchasing series reports can have with them.

These reports can be used in either desktop or web client, just in the desktop client you may be prompted for email credentials if you haven't already entered them in your GP session.  Also, which email account that is used to email the report will differ depending on desktop or web client.

If you can email from the GP desktop client that web client is pointing at, it wouldn't appear to be the .NET Framework, otherwise the email wouldn't work from that client either.

If desktop client works but web client can't email anything, I'd double-check the Modern Authentication of Web Client again to make sure nothing was missed, even removing it, saving changes, logging out and back into Web Client and setting it up again.

**NOTE: Just to make sure, you must be logged into Web Client in order to enable Modern Auth for Web Client, it won't work from the desktop client.**

If it still won't work, we'd probably need a support ticket opened so an engineer can look at your environment with you.

    Thanks
