AX 2012 - Project server integration #3

Hello,

Finally was able to get PS<->AX synchronization working (thanks also to this forum), at the moment details between both are being exchanged but.. seems not all of them. What was found by business is that projects and its resources created in PS are not looks in AX same way as these created in AX - difference is visible when looking for resource/wbs details. Here we are:

For project created in AX, WBS looks like below:

8203.20.png

but for these created in PS and synchronized to AX like below (no 'scheduling..' and no 'estimated..'):

Thing is that missing parts seems to be essential - without that assigning resource to project task, as well as cost management does not seem to be working.

Is anyone using PS<->AX synchronization, and faced same issue? Is there a way to synchronize also details related to task/resource assignment? Or maybe interface is just designed this way, and is not intented to sync these information?

regards

Tomasz

Also, is anyone using feature labeled 'custom fields mapping'? And if so, could maybe share content of personalized records in SyncIntegratedFields table? Seem to me that in this table there is much more fields to be filled than mentioned in integration manual, so I have doubts if/how it will work.

    regards

Tomasz, we updated the Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2012 Microsoft Project Server 2010 Integration White Paper in December 2012.  Be sure to be using this current version for your setup.  If you notice anything missing, please let us know.

Bob, I was using latest one - thing is that it seems to me more like short overview than 'real' ducumentation; I am also quite sure that anyone who would try to make it work in environment other than 'all-in'one' (all components installed on one server) would face same problems I did; what just quickly came to my mind:

    - no any markers, which part refers to which type of setup (all-in-one or with components spreaded on several servers); example is software list or list of services to be started

    - regarding above, doc you've mentioned should be (at least I believe it would be helpful) divided: separate part for all-in-one, separate for spreaded setup; second one should have listed component/service list per server in each scenario

    - there were several installation issues not described in any troubleshooting; troubleshooting itself part is a bit poor, most of the problems I've found were described on this forum

    - and at the end of the list, regarding syncintegratedfields table - in table itself there is much more fields than explained in doc; that is why I was asking if anyone used this option, as it simply seems there is no exhaustive details provided how to do it (should all not mentioned field be just omitted? should any default value be set? will these be filled by sync service (or any other) themselves?)

there are more I am affraid questions I was not able to find answer to; if you would find useful to know what (from my point of view) was missing, let me know - will browse my notes and point them all.

    regards

Hi Tomasz.  I have documented the information you wrote regarding the whitepaper.  Next time we update it we will consider the suggestions you have made.

The custom field integration does work.  I think it would be best for you to tell me which fields are in question and I will research here.  We can fold that into the white paper update as well.

    Hello Bob,

Regarding our discussion as above, maybe you could help - I am looking for a way to have resoirce proces from AX visible in 'standard rate' field in PS; I guess it is to be done using custom fields, but cannot find any details/instruction how custom fields are working.

    Wider description is here: community.dynamics.com/.../109666.aspx

    Could you help?

    regards

    Tomasz
