Ended production orders with open manual flush materials

(0) ShareShare

We use manual flush items as floor stock items for low cost components but still leave them in the bill of material.  In AX 2009 this was not a problem but in AX 2012 production orders are ending but the manual pick items are left open.

Please help on:

1. Any ideas how to fix the open manual items.

2. Close the manual unpicked items on the ended orders.

Thanks

Konrad

So you do not want to pick then at all?

We don't really care either way. I find it strange I can pick them after the order is ended.

The cost is also present as a percent markup so it is accounted for in the total cost.

The problem is instead of the end closing all the ProdBom lines it left them open so they still show in requirements even though the order is ended.

2009 never seemed to have this problem.

    Thanks

After it has ended? You surely mean after it is reported as finished...

I kid you not. The production orders have ended and the ProdBom and requirements are there  ready to be picked. These are screws, bulk insulation, tubing and other low cost items we really don't care about as to cost but do care about for requirements.

    Well...

Can you try deleting the production order(maybe in test first)?

    Does that remove the requirements?

If not, you should probably go directly to ProdBom table and try and delete them.

If that fails. Go nuclear... Delete the ProdBOM lines and the inventTrans and maybe inventTransOrigin records.

And do set flushing to be marked as end these lines.

In testing and looking at code deleting the ProdBom records is the best solution since Ended orders cannot be changed.  The deletion of the ProdBom record is wrapped with quite a bit of code (thankfully not predicated on status < Ended) that removes the requirement, deletes the InventTrans and deletes the InventTransOrigin records. It would seem also to back out any inventory transactions as well if they were executed. With the jumbled code and lack of any real documentation it is probably safest to not delete records for BOM items with activity.

It does change costing a bit. Apparently the unposted ProdBom manual items were booked to BOM substitution. Makes sense if you stand on your head for awhile.

And as you said at the end long term end marking the lines is a good thing since the AX 2009 behavior is quite different than AX 2012 R3.  One caveat here is that setting pick list to Flushing Principle and end marking the pick lists on Start is the most efficient way. Otherwise on our BOMs it would generate 20+ extra records for each serialized item produced. End marking is a rather diffuse concept in that it Ends but does not End.

You should probably use the InventUpd_Estimate class to remove the RemainInventPhysical quantity on the ProdBOM record, which should also take care of the proper InventTrans "on order" records.  The "nuclear" option seems a little unwarranted and rather risky, as you've discovered.

    Brandon,

I considered that but from looking at the InventUpd classes most if not all check endlessly for production order status. Since the orders were Ended (aka Completed). Any options about using the interactive version of the classes, RAFs, pick lists etc got the Order has been ended cancel.

Furthermore comparing the two results in AX 2012, pick list end marked and deleting the ProdBom record along with the AX 2009 results I didn't really see any differences, especially since all the accounting entries have been made by the Ended status change. It might have been different had the end mark left the InventTransOrigin and InventTrans records but it deletes them as well.

    Thanks

    Konrad

My suggestion was not to end mark it, but instead of manual on the Flushing principle to set it to End.

Then you should be able to get these picked automatically when the orders or operations are finished.

Yes, End marking is a devious parameter not for the faint hearted.

That would not work well for us. Our orders are serialized with each serial creating a RAF for the Finish flush parts. As an example 20 Manual flush items over 200 RAFs 4000 extra picked items.

We have found end marking the order Start does both the Start flush and cancels the Manual flush items. The Finish flush ones can be picked with each RAF using Flushing Principle without end mark.

Our other option is to do a final RAF 0 quantity flushing principle end mark.

Our other issue with making them "real" and using a Start flush is that these items are almost interchangeable. Inventory would be perpetually messed up with screw substitutions, label stock, tubing use etc. Better to issue to the line as needed and then cycle count periodically to consume them.

    Thanks

    Konrad
