Upgrade from 8.2.x to 9.0.10 or higher is not supported

Posted on by 42

I'm just leaving this here for others. According to my microsoft support case, they no longer support direct upgrades from CRM 8.2.x to 9.0.10 and higher .

I've tested with with

  • 8.2.3 to 9.0.10
  • 8.2.3 to 9.0.11
  • 8.2.13.21 to 9.0.11

without succes. All importing failes (tried with multiple organisations)

All imports of databases fail with the error  "'Attribute' metadata entity doesn't contain metadata attribute with Name = 'autonumberformat'"

Any/all workarounds are welcome, as we are not getting any solutions from microsoft at this time.

Their last update:

"As we discussed in order to do the upgrade from 8.2.3 you will have to upgrade to version 9.0.9 and then to version 9.0.10.

This is due to difference in the code that is applied after version 9.0.9.

Unfortunately there is no official documentation on that because Microsoft is recommending its customers to update their systems regularly with the newest version available when it comes out."

Update D365v9 to Update 0.18 then import - that sorted many upgrade db issues from what I have seen

Only done this in test, but I can upgrade 8.2.11 to 9.0.10 and later by creating a view in the _mscrm database before upgrading it. I restore the db to my V9 server, create view and then  import with no errors. Found this by using sql profiler while getting the failure importing to 9.0.10. They seem to be calling the view before creating it. It will get additional fields as the import runs.

    SET ANSI_NULLS ON

    GO

    SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

    GO

create view [dbo].[PrivilegeObjectTypeCodeView] as SELECT * FROM [PrivilegeObjectTypeCodes] --WHERE OverwriteTime = 0 AND ComponentState = 0

this is fine if you only have a few organisations on farm, but once you reach 20+ with 2000 users spread amongst them, migrating from 8 to 9 takes a lot of time (fixing, testing, ...) hence we have 2 active CRM versions (4 crm farms), and are migrating one or two organisations at a time, over probably 12 months.

it's completely unrealistic to upgrade everything inplace when each update comes out, this broke our environements completely multiple times in the past....

    Hi,

It is better to update the version as per their suggestion.
