GP TLS Office 365

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

So I'm reading the article on how to connect GP to the smtp-legacy,   I can't find any place to put this in?  Is the smp-legacy for 32bit outlook using mapi ?

GP is set on exchange because we have 64bit office installed on the server,  so its not using mapi.

My SY04920 points to outlook.office365.com/.../Exchange.asmx

As at October 2021, Exchange Online dropped support for TLS 1.0 & TLS 1.1 and Basic Auth on the SMTP endpoint smtp.office365.com.  If still you need to use the older TLS versions you can enable legacy TLS mode on your Exchange Online tenant and then use the smtp-legacy.office365.com endpoint instead.

    RE: GP TLS Office 365

The recent changes to TLS/basic authentication are specific to Exchange emailing in Dynamics GP, as basic auth is one of the requirements of emailing via Exchange in Dynamics GP, unless you're on GP 18.3 or later and using the modern authentication/AD MFA functionality we added in those versions for this specific issue.

We haven't really seen MAPI emailing being impacted by these recent changes.

You mention intermittent EFT remittance emails sending Word Templates via MAPI and seeing about half the emails in a batch do not send, is the issue only with EFT remittance emails and/or Word Templates or do you also see this type of issue with just regular MAPI emailing from Dynamics GP?

If you haven't already, the email troubleshooting guide has some basic information on MAPI emailing and EFT remittances:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../email-troubleshooting-guide

    As well as this blog:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../email-pm-eft-remittances-steps

If none of this helps resolve the issue, I'd open a support case with our Apps team, who work more with EFT remittances specifically and Word Templates, that is if the issue is only with EFT remittances and not a more general overall issue with MAPI emailing.

    Thanks

    Derek,

Can you comment on if the TLS1.2 and Basic Authentication changes that are happening have any impact on MAPI emailing from Dynamics GP?  Your comments above and the one in the link you provided seem to be specific to when system preferences are set to 'Exchange'.  We are seeing intermittent EFT Remittance emails failing sending Word Templates using MAPI with the 32 bit Outlook client connecting to Office365 mailboxes. About half of the emails in a batch do not send.

    Thanks!

    RE: GP TLS Office 365

This blog is specific to workflow emailing and using a legacy endpoint:

    community.dynamics.com/.../dynamics-gp-workflow-intermittent-emails-failing

This blog discusses how to opt in to the Exchange Online endpoint for legacy TLS clients using SMTP authentication, via powershell commands, then once that is setup, you'd use a SMTP server name in the Workflow Setup window, that is this:

            smtp-legacy.office365.com

The SY04920 table is not used by Workflow and is specific to regular Dynamics GP/non-workflow emailing, when using basic authentication, i.e. the Exchange Log On windows.

This blog speaks about a work-around for non-Workflow emailing in Dynamics GP via Exchange, that can be used if basic authentication is disabled on the Exchange Online tenant and if you're not on GP 18.3 or later and using the new modern authentication:

    community.dynamics.com/.../emails-intermittent-failing-when-sending-out-of-dynamics-gp-not-workflow-emails

After Oct 2022, basic authentication will be permanently disabled by Exchange Online for all tenants regardless of usage, with the exception of SMTP authentication.

    Thanks

I believe this is specific for Workflow functionality.

Navigate to your companies Workflow setup window in GP and enter in the SMTP settings.

if you don't use Workflow, (+webservices) in GP, then you should be good from a GP perspective.
