Hi everyone i want to know how GP knows which Dynamics is going to connect when i have multiple GP instances installed on my machine. let me explain myself with an example suppose i have DYNAMICS1, DYNAMICS2 and DYNAMICS3 installed on my pc now when i run GP how GP knows which DYNAMICS is going to connect ?

The purpose i want to know is to make one DYNMAICS centralized so each time i run GP it only connects the specified DYNAMICS. Your suggestions Please.

I believe you will want to add a separate ODBC connection per instance.

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

At the time of install when you created companies you must have created the Dynamics DBs overwriting the default ' Dynamics' only and now when you will be logging into those companies the related Dynamics, 1,2 or 3 will be connecting

OBDC only checks connection to server i suppose. I want to get access to the file where it specifies which DYNAMICS is going to connect. there must be some be setting.

I think the question is basically, in a multiple GP installation either on same server or different, When you launch GP (Any instance) How GP decides with Dynamics to Connect. Of Course we select odbc, which merely has only server connection details. But problem is to know which dynamics database its' going to look at?

i installed in a way like DYNAMICS (GP1) then isntalled another instance DYNAMICS2 and DYNAMICS3 each have separate OBDC connection. and in each DYNAMICS i have 2 companies so in total i have three DYNAMICS and 6 companies. I want all companies to access one DYNAMICS.

The system does ask you at the time of installation if you want dynamics as default or customized and then since you are just creating the companies under one SQL instance.

There will only be a one ODBC which is by instance not by the companies because when you are logged into GP you just switch the companies under one GP license.

However if you have more then one company registered with Microsoft then then you should separate them by SQL instances and if you want to have different Dynamics' names then you can setup the ODBCs by instances and can easily differentiate the connections

    Atta Ullah,

This thread is fairly old, but was never really answered.

You may want to have a look at this other thread which offers a solution to a similar question :
