Issue creating Warehouse pick in UOM Case pack (handling multiple UOMs for an item)

Hello,

I have setup 2 UOMs for the same item, CASE and EA. EA is the base unit of measure for the item.
I am trying to create the Warehouse pick that should be in UOM CASE. i entered a Sales order in CASE and then proceed to create the warehouse Pick next.
The system throw an error saying Nothing to Handle, when there is enough quantity available in the bins. the Bin contents are in EA.
Please advise what am i missing in the setup?
The conversion CASE - 12EA exists in business central under Unit of Measure Table.

Please Help!
I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

In Business Central, if you're unable to create a warehouse pick in CASE even though sufficient quantity exists in EA, it's likely due to the system not automatically converting units during warehouse operations.

While the CASE-to-EA conversion may be correctly defined, the warehouse pick process requires availability in the requested UOM (CASE), and bin contents in EA aren't recognized unless conversion is explicitly supported in the warehouse setup.

To resolve this, ensure the item’s unit of measure setup is correct, the location allows directed pick, and bin contents are adjusted or replenished to reflect CASE availability.

    Hi Amrit

Thanks for laying out the details clearly. This kind of issue usually comes down to how Business Central handles unit of measure conversions during warehouse activities.

Even though your sales order is in CASE and the conversion exists (1 CASE = 12 EA), the warehouse pick process looks at what's physically available in the bins—and in your case, the bin contents are in EA. If the system doesn’t recognize that it can fulfill the CASE quantity using EA, it’ll throw the “Nothing to Handle” error.

    Here’s what you can check
    • Make sure the item’s unit of measure conversions are properly set up and active
    • Confirm that the warehouse location is configured to allow unit of measure conversions during picks
    • Try creating the pick manually and see if it lets you select EA quantities to fulfill the CASE order
    • You might also want to test this in a sandbox with a simplified setup to isolate the behavior

This article from Microsoft explains how warehouse picks work and what the system looks for when creating them https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/warehouse-how-to-pick-items-for-warehouse-shipment

Let me know what you find. If this helped, feel free to mark it as the suggested or verified answer

    Hello,

The issue occurs because the bin content is in EA (Each), but the warehouse pick is trying to handle in CASE, and Business Central does not automatically convert units during warehouse handling. For warehouse picks, the UOM in the bin content must exactly match the UOM on the pick lines. To resolve this, you have two options:

    1. Adjust the bin content to CASE by receiving or moving items into the bin using CASE as the UOM, so the system finds matching units during pick creation.

    2. Or, customize the warehouse pick process to allow unit conversion during pick creation -  this is not standard and would require development.

In short, for standard functionality, ensure the bin content and pick UOM are the same - Business Central does not convert UOMs during picking.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Regards,
    Mansi Soni

    Hi, good day

Can you check what units of measurement you have inventory in the bin?

    Best Regards
    Gerardo
