Navision, Office 365 integration & Email Logging

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi everyone,

I'm very new to Navision. I'm an Office 365 partner and specialise in Office 365 migrations and deployments.

I have a customer that wants to move to Exchange Online that also has Navision v5. Currently it is completely standalone. They are not using it with Outlook or Exchange, but they would like to look at upgrading to Navision 2013 and start using email integration features with Outlook and Exchange.

So i've been researching this online, and haven't really come across a definitive answer, however reading through the following, I can't see how it wouldn't work? Office 365 Wave 15 now support Public Folders, so setting up a dedicated licenced user for the Navision connection and creating the necessary Public Folders can be done.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh167505(v=nav.70).aspx

Can anyone tell me if there would be any problems with the connection from Navision to Exchange Online?

And has anyone done this successfully?

I've read a little about the upcoming release (Sicily) and it sounds like Microsoft is moving more towards integration with Office 365, so if it can't be done now, is it likely it will be possible with the next version?

Thanks very much for reading and any help you can provide.

Regards,

Shane.

Does somebody know if this functionality has been added to Dynamics NAV 2015? We're trying to get the email logging to work but we use Exchange Online and certainly not planning to move to Exhange Server on-premise.

Thanks guys for the answers on this. So it looks like this is still a ways off for Exchange Online :(

    Hi Chaps,

    Direct from Microsoft:-

"Exchange Online uses a federation trust which we still do not support in any of the current supported Dynamics NAV releases. The upcoming release Sicily / Dynamics NAV 2013 R2 still does not support Exchange Online. It is however on top of the features the product group would like to do in version next.

Regarding OnPrem release of Exchange 2013. Here is an answer regarding the initial request I filed a couple of weeks ago:

    1. NAV 2013 and NAV 2013 R2 must support Exchange 2013 OnPrem. Even if it means that we will have to hotfix it.

Exchange online has not been a part of the NAV 2013 R2 scope and will not be supported initially, but it is on the top list for next version.

It is true that public folders which we need is now available, but the issue around AD needs some investigation

    1. We also have a product bug for now logged on Sicily to address a defect with connecting to Exchange 2013 OnPrem. The fix for this defect should be ported down to NAV7HF"

Just a waiting game I suppose

First, your client have to make upgrade NAVv5 to NAV2009, and after that upgrade from NAV2009 to NAV2013. Second, I think that the best idea is to wait new NAV version (we expect release in 2013Q4), NAV2013R2 (former code name "Siciliy"). This version will have the full integration with Office 365.

    Hi Shane,

I don't know whether you have managed to find anything on this yet, but I would certainly like to know this answer too. I have emailed Marco Mels who is a Microsoft support technician who deals in this area. If he responds I will post here.

    Cheers
