How to prevent posting of GL journal with a negative debit or negative credit amount.

Does anyone know of a configuration on the main account or in GL parameters to prevent a user from being able to post a GL journal line with a negative debit amount or negative credit amount?

Steps to reproduce shown below.

Go to General ledger > Journal entries > General journals
Create journal header by selecting journal name
Select lines in menu bar
Enter journal lines as shown below with a – amount in the debit column along with other required information including offset account
Post journal

Expected result: Journal is not allowed to post with negative debit Actual result: Journal posts

Hello ReneErnst,

At the main account level you can specify rules for debit/credit requirements for a specific account.

Have you tried making use of those rules?

Which version you are having?

I tested in PU34 and able to post.

Possible you may have approval or workflow

Hello ReneErnst,

You can try with Balance control option available in the "Main accounts" form.

For example; we have set the balance control as "Debit" for the Imprest Cash account (110002).

After that created a journal with -10.000 in the Debit column for this account. After simulate posting is done; got below notification in system.

Hi ReneErnst,

There is not standard feature that prevents you to post with a negative sign on debit or credit, the option mentioned by Ludwig will not control if you use a negative sign on the selected option but only if you use debit or credit regardless of the sign. Sourav option will only work if the complete balance of the account is changing from debit to credit or viceversa depending on the selected option.

If you need to control this option I'm afraid you will have to customize the system.
