SQL Express Size Limit Reached

Hi all,

The size of my D365BC backup file is close to 9.7GB, too close to reaching the 10GB limit of the express version we are using. I am in the process of acquiring the standard license, however, this may take few days to complete, and I am afraid I might exceed the limit, does anyone know what will be consequences if I reached the limit?

1) Will D365BC stop functioning - I am using an on-prem version - ?

2) Will there by any data loss?

Last question, is the upgrade an easy process? or a complicated one.

Thank you so much for your input.

Thanks

Wael

    1) if my memory is good, sql server instance will stop if you try to write in the database

    2) you can't access the database since sql server will be down

    To upgrade:

    - backup your database(s)

    - install the new sql server

    - restore your backup(s)

(I assume you'll upgrade to the same version)

Is this a PRODUCTION environnement? If not, you can install sql server developer edition.

    Hello,

Best probably is to run some maintenance on the database:

    learn.microsoft.com/.../database-reduce-data

And to delete historical data. Of course make a database backup first so that historical data can still be accessed by accessing the current database. When the used space also reached the limit, your users may face some unknown strange errors.
