What is better - to work as an inhouse AX consultant or external consultant?

Hello dear community,

I have off topic question. What is better - to work as an inhouse AX functional consultant or external consultant?

Supposed, a person has already 5-7 years of experience and further wants  to learn AX/D365FO more deeply, rather than get superficial knowledge of main modules.
What was your experience with that?
