We have a need to digitally sign documents in Dynamics 365 Business Central , e.g. Purchase orders and some other reports. Can you assist on how we can achieve this ?

The documents are expected to have the names and signatures of the creators and also the signatures of the persons who approved the documents in the cases where there is a workflow.

I have the same question (0)

Hello, digital signatures are not available out-of-the-box, but you can achieve this using third-party extensions or custom development. For third-party extension you can definitely have look into Microsoft appsource and find the relevant extension as per your requirement.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Hi,

Adding digital signatures to Business Central documents like purchase orders or invoices is a growing need, especially for audit and compliance workflows. While BC doesn’t offer native digital signing out of the box, there are a few solid approaches depending on your environment and requirements.

    • If you’re using RDLC or Word layouts, you can:
      • Use JavaScript injection via a control add-in to embed a signature image or certificate stamp at runtime. This works well for previewed reports and can be tied to user metadata.
      • Leverage report extensions to add fields like CreatedBy, ApprovedBy, and embed signature images stored in media tables or blob fields.
      • Use ForNAV if available — it supports digital signing via PFX certificates and can embed signatures directly into the report layout.Watch the ForNAV walkthrough or a step-by-step guide.
    • For workflow-based approvals:
      • Capture approver metadata during the approval process and store it in custom fields.
      • Extend the report to pull in those fields and conditionally display signature blocks based on approval status.

    Hello,

Yes i totally agree with @Mansi Soni that Digital Signatures is not readily available in Standard Business Central, You need to use the third-party extensions or custom development
