I keep getting this error when I try to paste into General Journal from Excel: "You are trying to paste data that exceeds the maximum width of the target column or columns. That data will be truncated. Are you sure you want to continue."

From the error message, I gather that what you have typed in one or more fields exceeds the maximum number of characters allowed for the field in NAV.

You can validate how many characters are accepted in any given field by either going to the Development Environment, and opening the desired Table in Design mode, or from within the NAV Windows Client by going to the Application Menu icon (the blue button in the top left area that has an arrow in it), then Help > About this Page. Here you can look at the fields and in parentheses, it will show how many characters are acceptable for the field (if relevant; some fields may have a data type of Date, etc. that have no field character limit).

I hope this helps. If my response has answered your question, please verify by clicking Yes next to "Did this answer your question?"

In addition to what AJ wrote, you can also check the length of the fields in your Excel by using =LEN() formula - there you will easily see which field exceeds the length.

However, most likely, you have such an error that you are importing a wrong sequence of data to you journal, and some fields order does not match, so some data of incorrect type is imported to field of another type. You can check that by leaving only one line of data in your Excel - if you would get the same error, than you need to check the structure of what you are pasting and where.
