Resource Group Allocation

Hi,

Resource group is created and it is assigned to multiple resources. When the resource group is allocated to a service order, how to specify resource names along with resource group in multiple service order allocation lines inside resource allocation window. System does not allow to specify more than one resource name though they belong to same resource group.

Error message displayed is 'Only one resource can be allocated to one service item line.'

Hi,

In the Resource Allocation window is a hidden column called "Resource Group No."

Add this column to your screen and you can allocate a Resource Group instead of a single Resource.

Thank you.

But when I allocate resource group alone, it decrements allocated hour only from resource group capacity not from capacity of the resources involved in the resource group.

is this standard way of working?

Hi,

Yes - that's correct.

For multiple allocations of individual Resources check this link msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh178195(v=nav.90).aspx

Thank you.

If a resource group is completely allocated to one service order which means all resources in it are involved. If any resource in that resource group is allocated to another service order on the same day, won't be wrong?

Hi,

Yes - that would be uselsess.
NAV inherits the capacity of Resources into the Resource Group as described in the following link.

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh176920(v=nav.90).aspx
All capacities and budgets of resource groups are accumulated from the individual resources.
- Select two resources and add capacities
- Assign both resources to one Resource Group
- Assign the Resource Group to a Service Line
- Select an Allocation Date for the Service Line (it should match a date on which the resource are available)
- Insert Allocated Hours
- Search for "Resource Group Capicity"
- Select the Resource Group and the Date from the Service Line Allocation above
- by clicking the three dots (open the lookup), you can see that the Capacity is inherited from the Resources
- open the Menu "Planning" and click "Res. Group Availability"
- select the Date of the Service Line Allocation and you will see the Remaining Availability of the Resource Group

My description is based on NAV2017. In case you are using a former version, it might be that the names and/or menus are different.
