Deleting fields from Account entity

Posted on by 10

Hi,

I have a requirement to tidy up the Account entity to hide unused fields.

I've been looking at using field security but one of the users who wants the fields hidden is a system administrator, so my understanding is that they'd still be able to see them even if field security was applied.

Is it possible/best practice to delete fields from Account even if they are not custom?

Thanks

Jan

It is clearer now that you want the fields to be shown as a column and not in the search criteria.

In that case, it is not possible to remove it.

If you need to restrict seeing its data, you have to do it using field-security. however, it is always accessible by the System Admins.

Marking a field a non-searchable only prevents a user from seeing it in the Advanced Find criteria, but still allows it as a column in the results. You also can't stop a user creating a report that contains the field.

Does everyone need to be a system administrator, or can you create a new role for them with sufficient rights to be able to do all they need ? If so, you can use field-level security, which applies across all ways to access the data

Thanks Charles unfortunately this is not working for me. I have changed the field settings and published but I can still see the fields on Advanced Find when I add columns.

    Hello,

setting the field as non-searchable will definitely remove it from the Advanced Find, even if you are a system admin.

The same thing can be applied to the multiline field 'address1_composite' since it is a normal field in the account entity.

Thanks I have configured the field settings to not be searchable and set field security and removed them from the form but I can still see them in the Advanced Find (I'm a system admin too).

If I wanted to remove a field like 'address1_composite' from Account is that supported?

    Hello,

You cannot delete system fields, only custom fields can be deleted.

As for hiding them, you can try several options:

    1. Disable the search possibility for the fields (it will not appear on the search)

    2. Remove the fields from the form

    3. If it is required to be on the form, create a new Tab and set its visibility by Default to hidden, ad move your fiels into this tab

If you want to hide the field for all the user like even for a system administrator better hide it from form customization.

Just uncheck the visibility on field property.

If you really do not need that field and if that is a custom field you can delete it.

Note : Deleting a field will result in data present in that field to be lost as well.
