Is shift closing needed?

Hi,

Thanks for your help in advance.

I work for a client who has around 160 stores with around 400 MPOS systems. Every day the store owners close their shifts and they all want to get rid of the activity. MOst store owners start early in the morning around 5 am and go home around 3 pm. They have to go back to the store at closing to close the shift. Since there is no automated closing of the shifts I was wondering what the harm is of not closing the shifts.

We don't need the shift closing for the retail statements because the are calculated per date instead of shift. The Z report isn't used.

Any insight is much appreciated.

    Shift allows a user/manager to logically segregate the transaction in store. This in turn makes the reconciliation easier. Retail statement will not be affected if you have set the calculation method to Date/Time. However, if you continue on one shift for ever, getting the sales and tender information from X report will be difficult.

    Thanks. I am aware of the 'soft' advantages of shifts. My client exports all transactions and uses them in their own reporting tools, so there is no need for X and Y reports. Are there any 'hard' technical of functional requirements for shift closing?

    I don't think there are any other hard technical issues.
