Create own data warehouse / database from F&O cloud to onpremise

Hi,

I have a question,

what is the best approach to create and sync hourly or daily the database from F&O (cloud) to our own hosted on-premise database / data warehouse?

I read that it can be done with the BYOD feature by using the Azure SQL server in the Azure platform, which is also on cloud. But, how do we get the dabase / data warehouse, from cloud to on-premise?

Also, is there a possiblity to skip the BYOD feature with Azure SQL cloud server and sync it directly to a selfhosted on-premise SQL server? Which is our preferred approach.

Thank you!

    Hi David,

Out of the box, there is only support to sync data to an online service. If you have data in your online Azure SQL or DataLake, then you can add another task to copy data from there to online databases.

    Hi Andre,

    yes, but.

We don't want to have another sync copy from an online cloud database to another online cloud based database.

We want to get it from Azure SQL to an on-premise database. How can this be achived?

There is no supported way to achieve this with out of the box tools.

Also please consider that BYODB (or export to Azure Data Lake) will not export the whole database, but rather specific (selected) data entities and/or tables.

If you want to export the whole database, you need to do it by refreshing Prod database to Sandbox (also in cloud!) and copying it from there to your on-prem database. But when you do refresh from Prod to Sandbox, certain data will be wiped out / lost, so it's not a 1:1 copy.

So, there is definetely a way to solve your business requirement. But it might not be possible with the technical approach that you have chosen. You need to re-evaluate the technical approach based on the possibilities and limitations of the product.
