Rename Project Categories

I have several Shared Categories set up.  I have selected several of them as project categories.  I am able to go in and update the Category Name for my shared categories.  However, the change to the name does not reflect in my project categories.  And it seems as though I am unable to rename my project categories so that they will coincide with the changes that I made to their 'parent' shared category.  Is there a way that I can update the name (not the number) of my project categories?

    Hi Kathy,

    There is no standard AX UI to change the project category name. If you change the shared category name, it will not be updated on the project category linked to it. 

    This field is editable in the table but not on the form, so there are various approaches, select what suits you best :)

    1. Navigate to AOT, \Data Dictionary\Tables\ProjCategory -> right click -> Select open . Table browser for this table will be opened and then you can edit the name.

    2. Ask your technical team member to change the property of category name field on the project category form and make it editable, but once you are done then you should ask them to switch back to make it non editable as provided by Standard AX because changing these setup values is not recommended as these values flow in other parts of system and cannot be renamed if they are not the unique key of the table. 

    3. Provide the info in a csv file and your developer can write a quick job to update these values in the project category table. This way no change is required on the form.

    as per standard Project category name is not editable form the form

    but at table level you can update

    consider updating at that table level - ProjCategory
