Account Maintenance Buttons

Posted on by 135

Good morning,

I am a brand new user for MS Dynamics GP and I am going through the sample company as the sa user.  I noticed that the buttons for Summary, History, and Budget are all greyed out and inaccessible for every account.  What could be the cause of this?  I understand that sa is a poweruser and should have access to everything so I am unsure of what the problem might be.  This is making training difficult as I can't access the screens I need to access per my manual's instructions.

I am using GP 10.

Thanks for your help and for bearing with me.

and let me compliment you as a brand new user who can talk about field level security and talk about the 'DOT' of modified windows. :-) ;-)

    Hi,

The 'Accounts' window is actually the account lookup window and not the account maintenance window. A window that's name is a plural noun is most likely a lookup window.  If the window happens to be an Alternate window, there would not be a dot before the title.  If you go to the customization maintenance window, you can see a list of all of your modified forms and reports and their associated dictionaries.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Unfortunately no, there is no field level security that has been set.  I am the only user that has been in the database and as the sa user.  Nothing has been set up for field level security.  There is no period in front of the window title. Thanks for the suggestions.

The field level security hasn't been touched.  I am the only one who has ever been logged into the database and as the sa user at all times.  When looking at the Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports I selected DEFAULTUSER as that was the only option available.  Then I chose All Products and Windows.  From there I got a tree and located the "Financial" folder then "Accounts".  There were three options with radio buttons that were Manufacturing, Microsoft Dynamics GP, and Smartlist. It was set to Smartlist and I changed it to Microsoft Dynamics GP.  Not sure if that is what you were getting at but that is all I could see in Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports.  This had no effect on my problem at all.

There is also no dot in front of the Account Maintenance window title.

May be any field level security to deny access to this particular user. Check the field level security window(Tools-->Setup-->System-->Field Level Security) to verify if any security available for the window account maintenance.

    Or

Check whether this window(account maintenance) is selected as standard GP window or modified in Alternate/Modified Forms and Report window(Tools-->Setup-->System-->Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports). If not, choose GP standard window and check again.

    Hope this helps!!!.

    Hi,

Is this the only window doing this to you? Is it possible that someone may have set field level security to deny access to these buttons? Can any other user use them? Can you see them on any other company?  Is it the same on all gl accounts? You are right about Fabrikam, it does have sample data that, even if all zeros, should allow you to open the windows. If you have access to the window, but not certain fields on the window, it could be because of field-level security or a modified window. Does the window title have a period in front of it?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Thank you for your assistance.  It isn't allowing me the budget button either though.  Should I not be allowed to enter budget information from the account maintenance window with no historical information?  I am using the sample data (Fabrikam Ltd) and I assume they have some historical data in there.

Alas, I will not be attending Convergence this year but I hope to in other years.  Thank you for the link to your website.

If there is no history or summary data to show, you cannot see it.

Welcome to the MS Dynamics GP Family.  Hopefully your company will send you to Convergence in Atlanta in March.  Come by our booth and say hello.  If you are not going to be there, visit our web site at www.AccoladePublications.com
