Dear community,
I'm happy to be part of this community and already first post - first question:
Actually we're talking with different NAV / MS partners aroung the world regarding one question and there are two answers with conceivable explanations...
Our NAV System is 2018 (On-Premise) and no - actually we're not planning to switch over to BC.. ;-)
Question and initial position:
Our coorporation has different companies all over the world, were we're going / would like to intruduce NAV. All these companies are owned by at least 51% by the "Mother Company". Unfortunately and as you all know there are on the one hand different databases for different countries and, if not, different financial requirements (i.e. VAT) between them. This is why we cannot just use different "companies" within the same server and have to use different databases on the same database server.
As I've read in the Microsoft License Agreement and as a couple of partners (except German partners) agree to, you're allowed to use your NAV System / License for all companies, on which the "Mother company" is affiliated.
"“affiliate” means any legal entity that directly or indirectly owns, is directly or indirectly owned by, or that is directly or indirectly under common ownership with a party to this agreement."
Also it is written, that
"A key may only be used to run or access the particular version of the software [...] You must not duplicate or share the keys with third parties."
Well - but I have to duplicate the key in ordner to use it in two databases, which are on the same database server and are owned by the same company?!
Now the big question (answers please with link to the official information) is, if we have to buy about 20 times the same licenses for companies, in which we're affiliatet, because Microsoft does not allow, what would be allowed, or if it is okay to use the same license within all affiliated (s. expl. above) companies, which would be correct in my (small) opinion.
Thank you for your support and answers and best regards
A really confused Christian
