Does Microsoft still sell licenses for Dynamics NAV 2009 to new clients?

In fact we are trying to acquire a new financial software and our integrator is proposing to implement Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009. my question is to know if we can still get licenses and support from Microsoft for this version of Dynamics NAV.

    Hi Indika

Thank you for your prompt response. the post was very informative but it's dated 2014, my concern is to be sure now (2016), for which version new customer (who has never before used Dynamics NAV) can easily get the licenses from Microsoft.

thank you Amol, i do understand NAV 2016 has much to offer in terms of features than NAV 2009 but first concern here is about Licences and the costs obviously.

Microsoft supports two (three) last NAV versions for new clients. Thus, 2009 is not supported as a purchase for new clients. It is advisable to obtain licenses for new versions and implement 2016 as the latest.

Current customers can still by new objects and additional licenses for 2009 in case they have active BREP subscription.

There is an option to transfer existing 2009 licenses from one customer to another by proving they are somehow "affiliated" during the merge&acquisition process.

What is the real need to implement 2009 version in your case? Perhaps, we can advise some work-around.

Thank you Alexander for your light on the issue,

in fact we are in process of implementation of NAV, the contract for the project was signed back in 2013 at that time the contractual version to be implemented was NAV 2009, and due to some administrative issues, the project was delayed. Now as the project is resumed, we are having a struggle with the integrator, who still want to implement 2009 version. Our take is to have a version with valid licenses and that is supported by Microsoft.

    Hi Romeo

Its always Advisable to go for The Latest Version Available and With New Navision you Reduce the License cost with the Limited User license who actually do not involve in posting transaction etc. the Limited User is Cheap and you have plan properly to elect limited user or Full User

below is more information for license guide

    www.wise.is/.../NAV16_2016LicensingGuide.pdf

    here about limited user

    Hello Romeo,

You can buy NAV 2009. NAV 2009 AM edition will remain available through to June 2014. Currently, you cannot buy only NAV 2009 BE edition.
